Meet your therapist,

Cristina Yturralde

M.C., LPC, certified Brainspotting therapist, StoryPlay Practitioner and Brainspotting Consultant

Cristina is a Licensed Professional Counselor. She has been practicing counseling children, adults and families for almost 2 decades. Cristina has been practicing therapy as a clinician since 2006 and as a licensed therapist since 2007. Her extensive experience working with children and families has equipped her with the skills to address all issues of childhood, such as early childhood, parenting, and the management of chronic illness afflicting either child or parent.

She has a background in play therapy and is a StoryPlay practitioner with StoryPlay Global, trained by Dr. Joyce Mills.

Cristina has over 36 years of experience, knowledge and contributions to children, adults and the families dealing with serious medical illness.

Cristina knew what she wanted to do since she was 10 years old and has always been drawn to helping people with medical illness. For her, this is genuinely a heartfelt mission of support, and she is deeply passionate about this work. She was blessed to learn about the mind-body connection in the late 1980s and early 1990s to support her own healing journey, and she was able to experience its benefits firsthand. She was relieved and empowered to discover a way to treat her condition that was separate from medication and its side effects.

Since 1998, Cristina has worked with medical illness and has received awards for her supportive programs for people and children navigating health challenges. She has also presented nationally on living with medical illness.

Cristina has experience working within an integrative health team. Cristina credits this opportunity with gaining experience working with a wellness approach to living with medical illness. She facilitated support groups at the Cancer Support community for people dealing with cancer. Cristina founded her private practice in 2015 with a wellness and healing approach to all the ups and downs that life entails, especially in dealing with serious medical illness and in all childhood and family aspects of life. Cristina finds it essential to help facilitate the client to find strength, hope, resiliency and courage through it all.

In 2020, Cristina became trained in Brainspotting. Brainspotting has changed her life and her work as a therapist. She believes this modality to be an incredibly effective treatment that she has witnessed since becoming a therapist in 2007. Brainspotting is a Neuro-experiential model that truly changes the cognitions and creates new neuropathways to healing. Brainspotting is brain-based and body (somatic) approach to healing that works with the nervous system to reorganize and realign itself, enhancing resilience and facilitating change. She has found this to be helpful for anxiety disorders, depression, ADHD, medical illness, medical trauma or trauma in general, performance and so much more. She personally has lived experience with medical illness since childhood and was surprised that this modality actually decreased pain and fatigue. Professionally, she noticed that therapy work that would take over a year to see results, would now with Brainspotting, be able to see progress in a few months. She is very excited to share this work with children, teens and adults.
